Greetings, Class of ’64! (from our Facebook page - Marie)

For those who are new to our group, I’d like to share a little background about the announcement below.

In 2024, as our 60th class reunion in Dodge City was coming to a close and we were preparing to head home, I was approached by members of the 60th Reunion Committee at the Hoover Pavilion. Because everyone had such a wonderful time—and recognizing that travel and mobility are becoming more challenging—we agreed that we shouldn’t wait until our 65th reunion to get together again.

The committee proposed hosting an “80th Birthday Celebration” this year, since most of us will be turning 80. Wichita was chosen as the location because it is easier to access and offers more activities and amenities than Dodge City. I was asked to organize the event since I live in Wichita and can connect with many classmates through Facebook. After being assured that this would be a casual, one-day celebration—not a formal reunion—I agreed.

After returning home, I recruited a wonderful committee to help: Janie Day Hamby, Randy and Sharon Class, Barb Emery Farrell, and Fred Stewart. Fred and Cleone Stewart have generously offered to host the event at their home.

Here are the details:

80th Birthday Celebration Itinerary
Saturday, September 19, 2026

11:00 AM – Meet and greet at Fred & Cleone Stewart’s home
12431 E. Central, Wichita, KS 67206 (Stewart’s Cove)

11:30 AM – Catered picnic lunch (provided by the Class of ’64), followed by visiting and reminiscing about the “good old days” at DCHS

3:00 PM – Cake and ice cream to celebrate our milestone birthdays, followed by more visiting

6:00 PM – Dinner at Walt’s (about 3 miles away)
• Everyone pays for their own meal
• Fred will make reservations once we know how many are attending
• They’re open until 2:00 AM—but I doubt we’ll stay that late… or maybe we will! ðŸ˜Š

ANNOUNCEMENTS

From David Crawford:  Do any of my classmates remember Diana McKee from DCHS? She graduated with the Class of 1962, when we were sophomores. I have discovered that we were related - not too close, 4th cousins. Do you remember Diana? If so, I would be interested to know more about her. She married Alan Wetzel, who was from Offerly, and that’s where they lived. They had one child, Roger Wetzel.
